Ideal for improving your child’s confidence, fitness, self esteem, co-ordination, discipline, motivation and keeping self and others safe

Initially this will be for juniors, 5yrs+

Location: Llanbedr DC Village Hall (in between Mold & Ruthin, N. Wales)

Date: Wednesday 22nd September 2010

Time: 18:00 – 19:00

Cost: £4 per child

Instructor: Stu Needham (4th Dan Black Belt, KWF European Champion)

with the assistance of other instructors from the CSKA

All instructors are enhanced CRB checked, qualified coaches via a recognised Governing body, First aid trained & have completed courses in child protection and welfare.

Alternatively see one of the team on Saturday 11th September 2010 at The Griffin Inn during the Llanbedr Fun Day, where they will be carrying out a demonstration

We are also looking at following this class with self defence/karate classes for adults. This would also be Wednesdays @ 19:30 – 21:00 (start date to be confirmed).

This weekend Chikara member Charles Godfrey is due to get married to Helen Davies.

The Chikara Shotokan Karate Academy would like to wish them the very best for the special day and for the future.

Charles, Don’t forget that a six week honeymoon is no excuse to miss training!! There are plenty of clubs where you are going!!!

Japan 2011

As some of you may already be aware the CSKA are planning a trip to Japan. This is following on from previous years where we have had very successful trips over there. This will take place around March 2011.

There will be opportunities for both sight seeing and also training whilst there so it will be of interest to all.

The dates are now set and arrangements in place. If there are any particular places that you would like us to try and arrange a visit to. Please list below.

TEAM CSKA

Flintshire’s Chikara Shotokan Karate Academy has been for some time an organisation which has had members fighting at World level. This has been under the close and expert instruction of coaches John Barker and Ian Smith. They have helped develop a team over the years which has been placed in many international events.

Well…….. they are doing it again!!!

Soon to be announced will be the CSKA Junior team which is hoped will go on to achieve results equalling or improving on teams past and present.

If you wish to be considered for this ELITE TEAM then hard training begins now!!!

New Dan Grade

Nathan Mather, one of the members of Flintshire’s Chikara Shotokan Karate Academy, has recently become our newest and youngest black belt.

Congratulations go to him for all his hard work and effort and we wish him well in his future in karate.

Special Course

On Sunday 23rd May, 11.30 to 14.30 a Special Course will be held at Hawarden High School Sports Hall. It is to be under the instruction of Shihan Ian Smith (6th Dan). This is open for all Ages and Grades. Its focus will be Kata, Kumite and refereeing.

Ireland March 2010

As some of you may be aware, the CSKA have arranged a trip to Ireland later this month. This coincides with the Wales V Ireland six nations rugby.

There are 9 people travelling from the CSKA for what is hoped to be an enjoyable experience.

Whilst there, members are going to get chance to train with other karate-ka from all over the world whilst visiting the delightful sights in Dublin, and obviously partaking in a Guinness or three.

For those of you not coming, prepare for some different methods of training on their return as I am sure that many new methods will be developed on what is to be an exciting weekend. Oh…… and obviously the usual photos and updates.

Junior Kyu Grading

A Junior Kyu Grading will be taken by Sensei Ian Smith and Sensei John Barker on Sunday 7th February 11.30 to 2.00 at Hawarden High School Sports Centre.

They will be a seperate Class for Junior Students not taking any Grading and for Adult Students.
